Frequently Asked Questions
Are you seeing clients in person?
I am only seeing clients online at this time.
What is your availability?
Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 5:15pm or 6:15pm and on Saturday mornings.
What can I expect from the first session?
The first session is an assessment session, and its main purpose is for me to understand what brings you to counseling right now. I’ll listen closely as you share your story and ask questions to gather background information and context. It’s also a chance for both of us to get a sense of whether we’re a good fit—does it feel comfortable to talk with me, and does the approach feel right for you? Establishing rapport and a solid working relationship is an important part of the process. We’ll also begin identifying your goals for therapy and outlining a plan for how we might work toward them together.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
I offer a sliding scale fee for self-paying clients in some cases.
Are your services confidential?
Our visits are confidential, meaning what we discuss stays between us. Exceptions to confidentiality may be necessary at times if someone is an imminent risk to themselves or others, sometimes involving issues of child abuse if there is a minor in harms way, or an elderly or vulnerable adult, or if a court ordered my records. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you have.
What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in what actually helps people feel and function better. Together, we look at thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that aren’t working and explore more adaptive ways of responding to life’s challenges. Part of the work involves identifying and evaluating unhelpful thoughts; part of it involves understanding, accessing, and experiencing your emotions. We may also look at how earlier life experiences show up in the present. Between sessions, I often encourage small experiments—trying out new ways of relating to yourself and others—so you can build skills and insights that last.
Do you see children?
At this time my practice is limited to helping adults.
Can you still be my therapist if I don't live in California?
Unfortunately no. I am only licensed to practice therapy in California.
How often will we meet? How many sessions will I need?
The answer is: it depends. Usually we meet weekly or every other week. If we end up working together on a longer term basis it is likely we would space the meetings out at some point. Some people get their needs met after 6-8 sessions, while others stay in therapy for years. It all depends on your needs and motivation to do the work.
What about privacy and security?
The practice management software I use leverages industry validated encryption solutions to protect all data transmitted or stored by the system. It has a client portal that can be used to securely complete, e-sign, and return forms as well as communicate with me via HIPAA-compliant messaging.
What video conferencing app is used for the sessions?
I am using Psychology Today's telehealth platform called Sessions - a video conferencing app designed for therapists to conduct online therapy sessions. It is built to be HIPAA-compliant and provides a secure platform for both therapists and clients.
